Sounds like you have IMM5292(confimation of landing) not imm1000(so called landing paper), then you have to apply travel document to reenter canada. Go to this link http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/5529E.PDF, then you will know how to do. We are kind on same boat, my husband and my daughter have been waiting for their cards over three month. I got mine 7 weeks ago, I believe they have photo problem too. I called my local canadian consulate, they can accept the application of travel document, it could take up to 30 days to get approve. Do you mind to let me know when you landed? which port you went through. Thank you.

      If you child is holding imm1000 (so called landing paper), s/he should have no problem for coming back. But if s/he is hold imm5292(confimation of landing), you have to apply travel document at your local Canadian Consulate for her/him. It could take up to 30 days. Do you mind tell me what's the problem of your child's application? is it about photo? My husband is waiting for his maple card, even though I got mine 6 weeks ago. We landed on same day. Thank you for sharing your information.

            For my case, can I apply the travel visa for my daughter in Canada Embassy at Beijing? I am wondering why my daughter's photois not acceptable because we all took photoes at Vancouver airport. I got the toll free number at the letter from CIC, sorry I don't remember it, Maybe you can find it at cic web site.

              You can applied travel document at Beijing. We just mailed out my husband's application two days ago. My husband and I took the pictures at same place on same day too, but he is still waiting for his maple card, I believe he will has same problem of your daughter's. Did you dial 800-2554541? I asked my friend in Toronto tried many time, but never get through
