On my EIT registration card, my name was written as Xxx Zxxx. I would like to take this chance to explain a little bit about Chinese names.
1. Chinese letter and words.
The followed statement has 10 Chinese letters and 4 Chinese words. In real sentence and publication, the space between words would be dropped.
Example:
加拿大职业工程师协会 these are the normal Chinese
加拿大 职业 工程师 协会 these are the Chinese with
spaces between words
jianada zhiye gongchengshi xiehui these are the pronunciations.
Canada Professional Engineers Association Corresponding English words
Spaces could be never put between letters within one word if the word has more than two letters. But one might put space between words though it is still rare.
2. Chinese Names and English names
In English, people have middle names, For example, John Jerry Smith, Jerry could be dropped in many conditions. So the name could be shorted as John Smith. The Chinese only have first and last name, no middle name. In my condition, my first name is Xxxyyyy, last is Zzzzz, Yyyyy should not be dropped.
On almost all my official documents, passport, driver’s license, health card, bank accounts, except Landing Record, my name is always Xxxyyyy Zzzz. I don’t know why the immigration officers wrote it as Xxx Yyyyy Zzzz, maybe that is ok but Xxx could not be used as my first name. And this format misleads people to regard Yyyyy as middle name.
If possible, could you please change my name from Xxx Zzzz to Xxxyyyy Zxxx on my card, and if I will be lucky to get the PEO license in future when all licensing requirements of the Act have been satisfied, I also wish my name Xxxyyyy Zxxx could be appeared on my license.
