本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛I submitted my application this June, got my file number in July. Up to now no other message from the Embassy about my next step. After thinking for several days/nights about what I should do before I got LP and what I could do in the future, I become much more puzzled and pessimestic than before (the moment I sent my application). There are two question I would like to get comments/suggestion from friend here in Rolia.
The first question is should I continue my application or not? Well, this will be a huge question if I do not tell you my background. Here is my background.
Major: Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding
Education: Ph.D.
Experience: Teaching and research in university for 6 years, including one and a half years post-doctor research outside of China.
English Ability: Have been interpreter for around 10 foreign scholars visiting China. Obtained 129 points in WSK (EPT).
Age: 32
The reason I ask this question is that I am very worried about the possibility to get a job in Canada for people of my background. If I get my application granted, I will propable be around 33 or 34 years old. What could I do in Ca? I can imagine that there are three alternatives for me in Ca.
1. Lucky enought to get a job in my field of forest genetics. The possibilty for this one is terribly low as far as I know. But I have never been in Ca and might get some information that is not accuate, nor complete. Thus I still expect new information from friends in Ca.
2. Try to apply for another degree again. The problem with this alternative is that the future of getting a job in my filed might be as poor as it is now. On the other hand, if I choose another suject/major, I might be too old when I graduate to be competitive as those much younger graduates.
3. Have to do some jobs as general labour. If this is the only one I have to choose, I can't imagine what life will be. I am not a physical strong person, neither is my wife. What I expect will be some job at office if possible. Generally speaking, the future for this choice is not bright, let along promising.
Based on the analysis, it will be very tough during the first months even yearsif I go to Ca, but what makes me worried is the future after I settled down. I grew up in the countryside and won't be too afraid of those lobour job. But if the future is doom, it would not be a good choice.
The second question is: if anyway, I choose to go to Ca no matter how tough it will be, what should I prepare before I go? In other words, if I need to learn something new, what should I learn? By the way, the answer to this question will also help my wife a lot. She passed the exams at the level of college for self-study (Zi-Xue-Kao-Shi). But she has to hunting for job every now and then (this is part of my reasons for immigration application). She used to work with an architecture design institue. But her major will not help her too much in Ca, therefore she is considering stop working and start to learn something new.
I know the decision should be made by myself, but any comments from you will be very helpful. I appreciate any response.
