两相电是串联关系，两电路串联，电流容量是两电路较小的一个，不能相加。两个100A breaker，串联仍然是100A。

100A的service，不过这里的入户线都是两相电，所以你的刀闸箱有right arm 和left arm,每个arm都可以有100A电流，总的来说，你可以有200A的电流，如果是200A的service,就可以总共有400A的电流。

if you're using appliance like AC/Stove/Dryer, they use both legs(2 pole, 240v), calculate current as, for example, 4000w / 240 = 16.7 amp, then each leg will be sucked 16.7 amp away by the appliance.

If you're using appliance like laptop, they use one leg only (1 pole, could be either), calculate current as, for example, 100w / 120 = 0.83amp, then the leg which the outlet is connected to is sucked away 0.83 amp current away,

the other leg won't be sucked.
Following this rule, you'll find out that 100 A service can support a lots of appliances especially your furnace and hot water tank goes with Gas.
