I used five days to drive from Vancouver to Toronto. My car is Civic 2001 Sedan LX. You can live in Motel during your trip, around CAD$ 60. You just need to use No.1 Canada-Trans, and when u enter Ontario, just use No.17. you will spend around 2 to 3 days on driving in Ontario.
Most of the road is perfect, you can keep 120Km/h, but please pay attention to the police, especially when u enter Ontario.
You first stop should be Golden (from Vancouver), near Banff, you can spend 1to 2 days to see Rocky Mountain, amazing !!!!
I only spend around 250 for gas, very cheap, My civc can run 650 KM per 40L gas. so pretty Cheap. By the way my car is standard.
And during your trip, be careful about the trucks.

Hello, yes, you are right, that is No.1 Highway. Civic Sedan is Honda Civic, 4 doors. I am not quite sure about the used car, and I think if u chose a good one, should be no problem. It is better for u to become a member of CAA, they can help u, when u are in troble on ur way to Toronto, and u can ask free maps from them.
The insurance from ICBC is much more cheaper than Ontario (But maybe only for me, I am 21 old now, so insurance is pretty expensive in Toronto).
I think there should be no problem for u to change ur plate in Ontario, and I think u can also sell u car here, but the price cannot be guaranteed.
I think if u plan to use ur car for a long time, you maybe need to buy a new car, that can give u a peace of mind. Like my 2001 Honda, it had no trouble during my trip, and save gas : )
Of course, a good used car is not bad, but should not be very cheap.

1，车
有长城国际信用卡和中国驾照就可以租车，好像没有信用额的要求。不过你在异地还车会较贵。另外，你的车要十分可靠。在一些路段，你可能开1个小时到不会见到人。虽然路上有巡警，但一旦车出了问题，你会很麻烦。如果车有巡航功能，你会更舒适。小枕头垫在腰上会让你的腰不太痛。当然，大车会比小车好。法律要求：小孩要有Car seat。
你没有加国驾照，可能保险会很贵。
2，路
买一张加国地图，上面有详细的指引。虽说是高速公路，但大部分路面质量要比广深高速差。在进入安省前的路，会有些颠簸。总体来说，比较好开。
3，加油和住
每一小时路程内必有加油站。Motel会在2个小时路程内必有。小心没油。
4，游
进入Calgary及快到安省和安省内较好玩，其他地方一般。
5，其他

租车最要紧的一种保险是Collision/Loss Damage Insurance(CLDI)，一般每天至少15~20CAD。如果你蒙行的信用卡是那种年费29元（Mosaik Travel Protection）的，可以Cover此险，不必额外买了，大大的省钱。 -xyz2002(边走边笑); 2002-12-27 {506} (#938302@0)

另外所有租车行的车都是1~2年新的车，且维护极周到（租车行最怕出事了：）），不必担心质量问题。只是一租3月，也许费用不低。

还有一点要注意的是：哪怕你的信用卡能cover租车险，一般而言，都有连续租车不超过48天（VISA的限制，BMO的MasterCard具体是多少天你问一下银行便知）的限制。当然，这个好解决，分两次租就完了呵呵。对信用额度什么的无限制。

另外，似乎你对这边旧车行情不熟悉(纯粹就事论事，看你贴子说不知Civic Sedan LX为何)，那么短时间内想买一辆跑3月长途而不出事的旧车，个人觉得大非易事，FYI。

1. You can do it anytime after you live in Canada several months, why rush?

2. Even you are capable of doing it by yourself, it won't be any fun for newcomers without thorough planning.

1. Food
You may try fastfood the first week on the way, but where you find Chinese food or restraurant in places other than Van or Tor?

2. Accommodation
Basically you can find motel everywhere, but get at least two major credit cards (From Canada bank) before hit the road, use bank card for cash withdraw.

3. Sightseeing
If no friends help you on the way, be prepared to tour yourself, if you know 10% about the places before you get there, 20% is what you get afterwards.

4. If you take your kid with you, double your difficulties. I would go without kid.

5. Stay in Van for the first month before starting the journey.
