本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛CMA Ontario is delighted to announce its approval as an Authorized Designated Body by the Public Accountants Council for the Province of Ontario (PAC or Council). Effective immediately, CMA Ontario has the authority to license and govern Certified Management Accountants (CMAs) to practise public accounting.
Approval of the application is the culmination of a long journey that began more than a decade ago. CMA Ontario has long held the view that Ontarians should have a competitive choice when seeking the services of an independent accountant. In 2005, the Province of Ontario agreed and passed the Public Accounting Act. It also established a reconstituted Public Accountants Council whose mandate is to: “ensure that public accounting in Ontario is practised in accordance with internationally respected public accounting standards that reflect the public interest in the delivery of superior quality public accounting services.” Again, we are proud that CMA Ontario has now met this standard and been granted status as an Authorized Designated Body.
Over this long journey members have asked about our activities to become a licensing body, and why the process was taking so long. The answer is simply one of constraint. Given the limited resources of the PAC, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario was assessed first, followed by the Certified General Accountants (who received their approval in June 2010) and finally the Certified Management Accountants.
The process has been extensive, and it is recognized that the practice of public accounting will only be of interest to a specific segment of members. However, it is important to note that all members will benefit from the public recognition that Certified Management Accountants, equally with Chartered Accountants and Certified General Accountants are licensed to practise public accounting. In effect, this is recognition that CMAs offer the full range of services and expertise – in addition to our unique blend of strategy and management capabilities. There’s no question – CMA is the designation of choice!
CMA Ontario has worked tirelessly to enhance the CMA brand and ensure that our members receive the recognition and respect they deserve. The right to pursue a public accountant’s licence and practise public accounting will enhance the brand and make CMAs an even stronger force in the marketplace.
