本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Our customer is a forty person, successful and growing, owner & business partner managed, advertising agency in the Beach area of East Toronto. We have been asked to help with the processes involved in hiring a new, hands-on, Controller.

Our customer is looking to hire a proven financial professional to provide hands-on accounting, financial reporting, analysis, planning, budgeting/forecasting, AP/AR, Payroll, Internal Controls and business process improvement services. This position requires the supervision of one staff person and reports directly to the President/CEO/Owner. The President/ CEO/Owner is an expressive, positive, assertive, influential and inspirational business leader and the Controller will also work in conjunction with the EVP/Chief Creative Officer/Business Partner.

The salary range for this Controller position is $86,000 to $106,000 plus benefits (including annual financial professional designation and 50% of annual training fees cost reimbursement) and an opportunity to earn a discretionary, personal and company performance-based bonus. Other benefits include, the beautiful offices with a second floor deck, staff lounge, fireplace and showers and the nearby boardwalk, beach and park. Position Requirements:

The team requires a hands-on financial professional manager who:
Has a proven ability to achieve results through a logical, systematic and accuracy driven approach.

Achieves goals and solves problems, whilst at the same time maintaining work quality and standards.

Has the ability to effectively challenge the status quo and achieve results while also demonstrating tolerance and consistency when dealing with others.
Adopts a questioning manner in order to assess situations and come to conclusions, therefore basing process improvements on facts and information gleaned from others.
Is comfortable identifying and presenting ideas and concerns to senior management.

Position Responsibilities:

Upon arrival, plan and conduct all day-to-day accounting operations (including journal entries, account and bank reconciliations, AR/AP, Payroll, government remittances and insurance work). Some basic HR functions will also be required.
Within 30 days, learn the QuickBooks 2008 ERP system, conduct a diagnosis of current financial procedures and make improvements wherever appropriate.
Personally perform financial analysis (P&L, Margin & Budget-Actual Variance) reports, along with identifying areas of note and suggesting implications, on a regular basis.
Prepare accurate and timely profit and cash flow statements every week - ensuring the timing and accuracy of cash is utilized efficiently and effectively.
Provide monthly financial reports and other ad hoc financial analysis as required by the President/CEO/Owner.
Within 60 days, working in conjunction with the IT/Online team, learn and effectively use the costing/billing system and make improvements to the system on an ongoing basis.
Within 90 days, refine and run the long-term forecasting model that will assist the company in becoming more proactive in its planning and better able to monitor and address variances as explained by the Controller.
Negotiate all operational contracts, including bank agreement(s), insurance policies, lease agreements, etc.
Working in conjunction with the IT/Online team, manage the financial implementation of a new workflow system (designed and built in-house).
Work with the operations managers to gather information and analyze vendor usage and then take approved action to consolidate and obtain preferred vendor pricing agreements.
Proactively monitor and advise the Account Managers when AR issues arise with their clients.
Produce timely and accurate month-end, quarterly and year-end reports and liaise with the outside accountants/tax professionals and corporate tax authorities.
Monitor, and continuously document and improve the financial control procedures as appropriate for an entrepreneurial company.
Manage employee benefits.
Effectively manage one direct report and build the finance team as the agency grows.
Liaise with the outside accounting firm for notice-to-reader and tax purposes.
