In a country like Canada, there is no such things called face. I do not see anything wrong here. They just expressed their opinions legally. They only represented themself.

agree, I dislike 'face' stuff either, somehow it is a good point to express our opinon, just thinking of something behind the surface, any deep impact for the whole imagine of Chinese community?

personally you might call me an extreme individualism believer, just like you said the similar idea. but in the real life, nobody could exist as single individual alone, everybody with her background, right?
