是因为好多2000年左右登陆的人都没有申请枫叶卡, 只有LANDING PAPER, 回不了国. 不象你手头有枫叶卡, 来去自由, 明白了吗?

Not more difficult, but more expensive. A few hundred dollars for something you only use for a few months. Not a good deal.

Passports are for 5 years, I guess. Maple cards are for 5 years too, but for those who landed around 2000, they'll only need maple cards for several months, if the citizenship application is processed in timely manner.

Of course, but that's not the path most people will choose. And the maple card has to be renewed every 5 years, while a passport is not neccessary for a canadian citizen.

你不用它的时候RENEW它干什么? 您如果选择不入籍又要呆在这里的话，枫叶卡可是要一直renew，你还得同时持有一个国家的有效护照．所以别把申请枫叶卡和护照混为一谈．
