I often install Oracle8i or Oracle8 on Unix
It is ok for other user of Unix no matter it is in DBA user group or not. You can try...Try to set some in the user's .profile or .cshrc ENV_files.(you must set the ENV_PARAMETER like oracle_sid ; oracle_home and so on)

Yes, sure, I configed the ENV_PARMETER like oracle_sid and oracle_home and so on in user's .profileBy the way, I have installed oracle8 on linux before. It's no problem .
That's very strange.
And the installation way of oracle8i is very different from oracle8. I download the installation guide from www.oracle.com.
It wil fail if I don't install like that. You have to install it in x-window. And switch to command line for several times ....
I am thinking it ...
That's ok . I just found another way to grant the web client user can run the CGI application to access the database.
