coincidentally i watched "into the wild" again last night and there was this long quote about happiness from Tolstoy still baffled my thoughts -“I have lived through much, and now I think I have found what is needed for happiness. A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people to whom it is easy to do good, and who are not accustomed to have it done to them; then work which one hopes may be of some use; then rest, nature, books, music, love for one’s neighbor-such is my idea of happiness. i do not quite believe tolstoy. he made it sound too easy. "what more can the heart of man desire"? my answer is "a whole whole lot..too much" ... i think we chinese reached a better answer long ago, which was "存天理,灭人欲" , then you happy ...

note he put "on top of all that" at the end and made it sound secondary and optional - so was he implying, mate and children, or family in general, is not as important as we think they are? thats a very interesting thoughts....
